Tips for Accepting the new Bigger you throughout Pregnancy

You’re pregnant, you’re thrilled, and your baby-growing body is a miracle. Then a sense of dread sets in: how big is this miracle going to get? Many women, unfortunately, lose sight of the joy of pregnancy through their horror at their expanding waistlines. It doesn’t have to be this way. You should enjoy your pregnancy, not wait in misery for nine months for your baby to make his or her appearance, and in order to enjoy it you are going to have to come to terms with a new body.

First of all, it is important to have realistic expectations. We all know that girl who was still in her pre-pregnancy jeans at six weeks gestation, but if you enter your pregnancy with that as an expectation you could be in for a mammoth disappointment (was that pun intended? I guess it was). If you do end up being one of those sickeningly perky pregnant women with the “who me? pregnant?” figure, well, that will be an enchanting bonus for you. However, if you enter pregnancy with that expectation and then end up feeling like a hippo that swallowed a beach ball, you are going to be one unhappy camper. Expect your belly to grow. Expect the rest of your body to keep pace with it to some degree. Remember that your body is just doing its best to be a comfortable incubator for its precious cargo. And be happy.

The next thing you want to do is to treat yourself and your appearance right. Find maternity clothes that suit you and your style and won’t embarrass you to wear. The selection for maternity clothes these days runs the complete gamut of styles. Find what you feel comfortable in, and be sure to invest in a couple “knock ’em dead” outfits for days when you may need a pick-me-up. You don’t have to settle for finding yourself clad in your husband’s old sweatpants and t-shirt when you run into your stylish neighbor at the grocery store. Besides nice clothes, be sure to pamper yourself with whatever extras you can afford or may be accustomed to, whether they be bubble baths followed by special body lotions or complete spa treatments. Just because you can’t see your feet anymore doesn’t mean that you should give up your pedicures. They’ll make a difference, trust me.

Lastly, it must be pointed out that investing in the right man to father your child is essential. Hopefully this is a given, but having the man you love tell you how glowingly beautiful you are while your belly grows is the best antidote for feeling like a breeding farm animal there could be. Guaranteed.
