Fertility Infertility Issues

Natural therapies and especially meditation, yoga and relaxation techniques can be very helpful if you are having difficulty conceiving. These techniques allow you space to express your feelings and come to terms with them. Some people are able to accept the difficulties in becoming pregnant with calm and equanimity, but others are deeply distressed by any delay and need extra support.

Having children is seen as a natural process. Many women feel angry when it does not happen for them. It can be hard to accept that they have spent years using contraceptives so as to not to become pregnant at the wrong time or with the wrong partner. In addition, a woman may start to feel guilty or inadequate.

Women who have difficulty conceiving may rapidly find their lives dominated by thoughts of their ovulatory cycle. Both partners may become burdened by the objective of having a child, and the natural sex life may suffer. Ovulation charts, timing, and the constant stress of a ticking clock can be enough to threaten the bond of even the closest relationship.

Surprisingly, it is not uncommon for women who have had problems conceiving to become pregnant once they are on a referral list for specialist advice. Why? It could be luck or chance, or it may also have something to do with stress. Once a solution is in sight, the couple is able to relax, and the reduced stress improves the chances that they will conceive.

Controlled breathing, meditation, visualization and affirmation are all strategies that can work to help both partners get into the best mental and physical state to conceive, improve general well-being, and reduce overall stress levels. Below are a series of steps to follow to practice affirmation and visualization.

Affirmation and Visualization Exercises

1. Choose a place where you will not be interrupted. Sit comfortably with your back straight, perhaps sitting on a cushion cross-legged or seated in a chair.

2. Take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes. As you breathe, relax your shoulders and your face muscles. Concentrate on breathing. Focus on the air passing through your nostrils.

3. Bring your attention to the center of your chest. Notice how it feels as you breathe; is there tension or pain? Just notice the feeling; do not try to change it.

4. As you continue breathing, wish yourself well. There are several ways to do this. Some people imagine pink light in the heart area that slowly expands to the entire body; some like to repeat affirmative phrases in their head such as, “May I be happy, May I be well, May I be safe…”

5. Continue to wish yourself well for a few minutes. Now, visualize your partner in front of you. Imagine the pink light encircling you both and spend a few moments enjoying its warm loving embrace.

Now slowly let the pink light away. Bring your attention back to your breathing. Sit quietly for two minutes and then get up.

If you are having trouble conceiving it is always best to consult your doctor. At the same time, there is no reason why you can’t practice natural techniques to reduce stress levels and improve your chances of starting a family. Improving your general well-being will have a positive impact on your family regardless of the outcome in terms of conception.
