Deciding whether to Give your one Year old a Birthday Party

There is no definitive yes or no answer as to whether you should give your one-year-old a big birthday party. It will depend on a number of factors, which you need to weigh to decide on what you want to do.

First of all, remember that a first birthday party is more for the parents than the children. A one-year-old does not understand birthdays. Of course, he or she may enjoy the attention and may like the party, but he or she may enjoy a walk in the park just as much. It takes a lot of time, effort and cost, so do not do it all just for your child when your child will not understand.

One thing that you should consider is whether it might actually be a negative experience for your child. At a first birthday party, everyone is going to want to get their hands on the baby. He or she might get shuffled around to tons of well-meaning relatives. For some babies this can be overwhelming. They may get scared, nervous or cry. If you think that your baby will react this way, then you might want to skip it.

Think about what it would mean for you and your relatives. If it is something that would be very special for you, then by all means do it. You might have a lot of loved ones that want to share in this special event. If you love parties and want to share this special time with your friends and family, then a first birthday party can provide that. It may also be a special memory that you can keep, and of course the baby will see photographs.

You need to consider the cost. A birthday party can get very expensive, especially if you want to invite a lot of people. You will need to pay for food, decorations, possibly a venue, drinks, favors and miscellaneous costs. You do not want to do all that if you cannot afford it. Also, you might be able to put that money to better use for the baby, such as a year’s membership to a children’s museum or a piece of baby equipment.

You also need to consider the effort to put together the party. It is not easy to put together a party. Make sure it is worthwhile since it is primarily for you and your loved ones and not really for the baby.

There are many advantages and disadvantages of throwing a big party for your baby’s first birthday. Weigh them to decide whether you should plan such an event.
